Two Programs Explore History's Leaders and Changing Roles

Two chapters of local Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution offer their insights into the men and women of history during two programs for adults April 26 and 30.

On Wednesday, April 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch, members of the Ozark Mountain Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will introduce the four Major Generals appointed by the Continental Congress for the support of George Washington to pursue military action against Great Britain. The program is part of the History Explorers series produced by the Sons of the American Revolution chapter.

On Sunday, April 30, at 2 p.m. in the Library Center auditorium, hear "Symbols of Patriotism: First Ladies and Daughters of the American Revolution" by historian Dr. Laurence Cook.

Historian and author Cook shares the entertaining story of the evolving role of the First Lady of the United States as seen through the actions of 12 women profiled in his book "Symbols of Patriotism."

These women worked to preserve the history of the White House, assisted their husbands in a variety of ways and took on causes that benefited the entire nation. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Presented in partnership with the Rachel Donelson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
