June 25, 1942. Colonel George Foster presented Purple Heart Medals "for having spilled your blood in actual combat with the enemy in defense of your country" to Corporal Roy N. Byers, Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, Private Leonard G. Luckey, Saginaw, Michigan, Private Harold Lenburg, Flint Lake, Indiana, Private Lawrence D. Carey, Burlington, Massachusetts. and Private Louis J. Byrd, Minneapolis, Minnesota. All five veterans were wounded during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, December 7, 1941.
