The Springfield-Greene County Library District distributes Federal tax forms during filing season (February-April) as a service to the community.
Library staff cannot help you prepare your taxes or tell you which form you need. Need someone to help prepare your tax return? The VITA program offers free tax prep assistance to filers who made $65,000 or less in 2023. Start here: Free Tax Help
Library staff members can direct you to paper copies, internet resources, and reproducible forms and publications. We can direct you to information that will help you decide what you need and to local groups that provide assistance with filling out your forms. This guide provides useful links and answers to frequently asked questions.
1. Where can I get forms?
- Online -- download, fill-in, or print forms:

The Missouri Department of Revenue no longer provides printed forms. You can still find Missouri income tax forms online.
2. What forms do you supply at the Library?
- The Library provides the federal form 1040 and 1040-SR booklet along with the accompanying instructions.
- The library district will only receive limited amounts of printed forms and instruction booklets from the IRS for distribution to the public. See Section 1, above, for other ways to obtain these instructions and schedules.
- Prints or photocopies of most forms can be made for 10 cents per page.
- We do not maintain enough inventory to supply bulk or multiple-copy requests.
- Some Federal forms are printed as special "machine-readable" products, and you cannot file a copied or reprinted version. These forms should be obtained directly from an IRS office or ordered from IRS Employer Returns.
- The Library no longer receives paper forms from the Missouri Department of Revenue. Free Missouri tax forms are NOT available at any library. However, prints and photocopies of Missouri forms can be made at a cost of 10 cents per page.
3. Where can I get tax forms for past years?
- Federal forms for prior years are at the IRS Web site.
- Missouri forms are at the Missouri DOR Web site.
4. Where can I get out-of-state tax forms?
- At the Federation of Tax Administrators' State Tax Form Page
- You may also call or contact the Department of Revenue of a specific state. The Library can supply you with an address and phone number for out of state offices. Contact Library staff for more information.
5. Can I file my forms electronically at the Library?
- The Library does not provide software to help you prepare your taxes, but it does provide Internet access to the following sites.
- Federal electronic filing -- IRS E-File will guide you to free and low-cost Internet filing opportunities.
- Missouri electronic filing -- MO E-file provides information about electronic filing on the Missouri Department of Revenue site.
- Missouri PTC electronic filing -- MYTAX MISSOURI provides information and electronic filing for the Missouri Property Tax Credit Claim.
- MyFreeTaxes -- MyFreeTaxes helps people file their federal and state taxes for free. It is a project of the United Way and the IRS' Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
6. Where do I mail my tax form?
- Federal returns of Missouri residents should be sent to one of these Where to File Addresses.
- Missouri returns should be mailed to one of these DOR addresses.
- IMPORTANT-- use the correct 9-digit zip code. To locate your 9-digit zip code, use this tool from the United States Postal Service.
7. What is the deadline to file my taxes?
The deadline is Monday, April 15, 2024. For more information, refer to IRS Tax Topic 301.
8. How do I check on the status of my refunds?
- Federal refund information can be requested at the IRS's Where's My Refund.
- The Missouri Department of Revenue offers a Return Inquiry System.
9. What if I get a threatening phone call saying I owe money to the IRS?
- If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.
- If you know you don't owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes, then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) at 1-800-366-4484.

10. How do I file for the rent rebate?
- The Missouri Property Tax Credit Claim, commonly referred to as the "rent rebate," gives credit to certain senior citizens and disabled individuals for a portion of the real estate taxes or rent they have paid for the year.
- The credit is for a maximum of $750 for renters and $1,100 for owners who owned and occupied their home.
- Libraries do not receive paper copies of the PTC Claim form. However, prints can be made at a cost of 10 cents per page; electronic filing is available at the MO DOR Web site; and multiple sites provide volunteer preparation assistance.
