Scoop Up Book Bargains and More at the Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale April 25-29
April 3, 2018 — Book lovers of all ages will find treasures at bargain prices during the big Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale Wednesday-Sunday, April 25-29, in the E*Plex on the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, 3001 N. Grant Ave.
Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, through Saturday, April 28 – Half-Price Day. The sale continues 1-5 p.m. Sunday, April 29, Bag Day, when everything you can stuff in a bag costs only $1, or $5 per sack from the better books side.
Friends Night Preview Sale is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 24. Friends members admitted free for this pre-sale event; or pay $5 at the door that night, and you can turn that into a Friends membership for a year of library gift shop discounts and free admission to the fall 2018 Friends Night Preview Sale.
This is Springfield’s biggest selection of bargain-priced books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, vinyl records, board games and puzzles. Most adult, teen, children’s books and audiovisuals are $1 or less; better books are $2 and up.
Admission to the main sale and parking are always free; the Friends accept cash or check only.
Every sale brings unusual collections that have been donated to the Friends all year. Here are some of the treasures this sale: a Moby Dick collection; books signed Maya Angelou, Johnny Cash and Larry McMurtry; an 1881 edition of “Little Women;” American Girl paper dolls; Chinese painting; two collectible copies of “The Cat in the Hat Comes Back;” Becky Matthews Bird Books; a Winston Churchill collection; a signed, nine-volume set of the Works of Arthur Machen; vintage Zane Grey Westerns; “Tarzan” by Edgar Rice Burroughs and other collectible literature.
