The Library Station Rocks Out on Rock Day June 9

May 24, 2018 —       You can hone your knowledge about rocks, minerals and geology when you take part in a day of geology-themed activities and rock talks. Because as the Summer Reading Program says, Libraries Rock! Especially on Rock Day June 9 at the Library Station. Call 865-1340 for details.

 Here’s what’s in store:

  • Rockapalooza  

11 a.m.-2 p.m. for preschool-grade 6 in the Story Hour Room Drop in for arts and crafts, science experiments, giant rock photo op, a rocks and minerals petting zoo, rock building challenge and more! Materials will be provided.  

  • Crafty DIY: Rock Painting   

1 p.m. in the Frisco Room for adults. Learn to appreciate the beauty of rocks with this hands-on rock painting session. Materials will be provided; seating is limited. Registration starts June 1; call 616-0683 to register.

  • "Steven Universe" Rocks! 3 p.m. for grade 4 and older in the Frisco Room Learn about different gems, make your own together breakfast, and take part in games and crafts with fellow "Steven Universe" fans! A Rock Day event.  
  • Rock Day Sessions for adults in the Santa Fe Room:

       2-2:30 p.m. Diamond Origins & Geology by Don Hoover, retired geophysicist and Ozarks Gem & Mineral Society member

      2:30-4 p.m. Rock Identification: Bring your unidentified rocks to the lobby for ID by Don Hoover, for all ages

     4-5:30 p.m. Geological History of Southwest Missouri with geology aficionado Dan Liles; 6-7 p.m.

     6-7 p.m.  Rock Climbing Travelogue with Basic Tips by rock climbing enthusiast Justin Smith.
