Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale Coming May 1-5

March 22, 2019 — Get ready to load up on bargain-priced books, DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks, vinyl records, games and puzzles – the Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale is Wednesday-Sunday, May 1-5, at the E*Plex, Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, 3001 N. Grant Ave.

Adult, young adult and children’s books and most audiovisuals are $1 or less. Better books are $2 and up. Cash or check accepted, and parking is always free.

Get a head start on sales – shop the Friends Night Preview Sale from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 30. Friends members admitted free; non-members can pay $5 at the door to shop the special sale hours. Regular Sale hours are:

  • Wednesday, May 1, through Friday, May 3, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 4, Half-Price Day, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. 
  • Sunday, May 5, Bag Day, 1-5 p.m. Pay only $1 for a bag full of goods, or $5 from Better Books side.

The Friends Silent Auction returns with a variety of finds.

The auction features a framed collection of authenticated artifacts recovered from the 1956 wreck of the Andrea Doria ocean liner. Artifacts include preserved U.S. and Italian currency.

Silent auction items also include a 1938 first edition of “Three Guineas” by Virginia Woolf; “Three Years with Quantrill” told by his scout John McCorkle, written by O.S. Barton, published in 1914; “Football for Coaches & Players” by Glenn Scobey “Pop” Warner; and more. For details about the item or bidding process, call Bill at 417-850-1999.

The regular sale includes a large selection of cookbooks from a local gourmet cook; art books, “Great Courses” in many categories; and Easton Press leather-bound classics.

Proceeds from the Friends of the Library book sales provide services and programs of the Springfield-Greene County Library District.
