James R. Wilder “Sheriff Without a Badge” Book Signing Aug. 28 at Library Center

August 19, 2021 — Local author James R. Wilder will sell and sign copies of his new book, “Sheriff Without a Badge,” from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Library Center, 4653 S. Campbell Ave.

The third book in the Harbison Mystery series of historic western novels, “Sheriff Without a Badge” continues the story of Chet Harbison, one of Theodore Roosevelt’s former Rough Riders. Chet finds himself thrown into the political fray of running for office after the county sheriff suffers a debilitating heart attack. Although Chet’s keen sense of duty and common-sense logic has already aided him in adapting to his law enforcement duties as a part-time deputy, he soon learns that the political side of the job is substantially more complicated. Two county office holders attempt to control his efforts, while another does everything possible to have him fired.

Wilder’s two other novels, “Terror Near Town” and “Tough Times in Grubville,” will also be available for purchase.
