Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale Celebrates $143,049.95 in Sales

September 23, 2021 — The Friends of the Springfield-Greene County Libraries brought in $143,049.95 during its Fall Book Sale Sept. 15-19 at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds E*Plex. The sale of used books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, puzzles and more kicked off with a brisk, three-hour Friends Night Preview Sale on Sept. 1 that had $37,389.70 in sales.

While not the record-breaking result of the spring 2021 event, when the Friends had sales of $172,653.88, Friends Treasurer Joyce Kastler said each days’ results this fall kept pace with past autumn sales. “A very successful effort,” she said.

Friends members and other volunteers price donated items all year, transport and set them up, and work the week-long sales to benefit the library district. Proceeds provide funds for music events, winter and Summer Reading Programs, author visits such as the October 2021 David Sedaris event, library branch furnishings, larger-scale projects such as the Mobile Library, the Library Express West, and the Schweitzer-Brentwood Branch renovations.

The public can donate books and other sale items all year at any of the 10 library branches.

Anyone can join the Friends of the Library. For details and to learn about the benefits of membership, visit https://thelibrary.org/donate/friends.cfm.
