Library Center Site of No-Excuse Absentee Voting March 28-April 3

March 23, 2023 — The Library Center in south Springfield is slated to be Greene County’s first satellite site for No-Excuse Absentee Voting weekdays on March 28-April 3, ahead of the April 4 election.

No-Excuse Absentee Voting allows a Greene County registered voter to cast their absentee vote without having to declare a reason for two weeks prior to the election. Four bipartisan election judges and one Greene County Clerk’s office team member will staff the site.

Voting will be permitted in the auditorium of the library at 4653 S. Campbell Ave. Hours will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, March 28-31, and Monday, April 3.

In-person absentee voting is also available at the Greene County Elections Center, 1126 N. Boonville Ave. Monday to Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. up to and including the day before the election, and will also be available at the Elections Center on Saturday, April 1, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

With the addition of the Library Center location, “The new election integrity law, HB 1878, provided this opportunity. The office wanted to extend an additional location to Greene County voters at a well-known, accessible location that people are familiar with,” said Shane Schoeller, Greene County Clerk.

County officials want to offer up another facility that may be more convenient for a person to vote absentee, and the Library Center, already an established election polling place, has convenient access for individuals traveling from outlying areas of Greene County.

Voting will be conducted the same way as at a normal polling place. This is a reminder that since the  November 2022 election, all voters are required to show a photo ID such as a Missouri driver’s license or non-driver’s license, a military photo ID or passport. Missouri legislators passed that law in 2022.

The legislature passed No-Excuse Absentee Voting effective August 2022, and it was offered at the Greene County Elections Center before the November 2022 election.

The Library Center will serve as Greene County’s only satellite site for the No-Excuse Absentee Voting.  “We are excited about this partnership with the Springfield-Greene County Library who has an excellent reputation in serving the citizens of Greene County.” said Shane Schoeller.

The Library Center is among several Springfield-Greene County Libraries that serve as regular election polling places.
