HISTORICAL POSTCARDS OF SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI
Public Square (view 4 of 7)
This postcard is an artist's drawing of the Public Square on one of our nation's holidays. The flags and bunting displayed on several buildings suggest Decoration Day or Independence Day. The back of the card dates the scene as "1917-18?" The "Pie" is clearly visible so it is definitely after 1909. The point-of-view is probably from the Baker Block Office building at the northwest corner looking southwest into the Square. None of the buildings have names that are legible. The side street on the left, where the trolley is headed, is St. Louis. South Avenue is the side street on the right side of the card.
